Hong Tiek Hian
Hong Tiek Hian Temple is the oldest temple and example of Chinese architecture in Surabaya. It is located in Jalan Dukuh near the Chinatown. The temple was built by Tartar troop during the well known Khu Bilai Khan emperor era of the early of Mojopahit Kingdom.
In this temple you can see lots of pillars with dragons, snakes and flowers. There are lots of carvings on the entrance of every altar. The carvings are typically Javanese because of their color and pattern. There are many statues and candles inside. Every statue has its own functions. In one area the entrance is secure by a guardian statue and inside there is one large altar. The temple has two floors and on the second floor is open area. One interesting thing from the temple is the wayang show called “Pho Tee Hi” with Chinese stories and it was played with music.
